The winter sales began on Monday in the four departments of Lorraine (Moselle, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse and Vosges), a week before the rest of the metropolis, as usual, due to the proximity of Luxembourg.
“It’s going to be a very big day for us, our car parks are already full, we have already exceeded more than half of the attendance at noon [du premier jour des soldes] of last year”, rejoices Jérôme Pinard, director of the Marques Avenue shopping center in Talange (Moselle), after an already “record” year 2022.
Luxembourg competition
The opening of the sales, which will last until January 29, the last day of the school holidays, is “a great opportunity” for merchants, who do not hesitate to offer discounts ranging from “-30% to – 60%”. Lorraine merchants got early winter sales ten years ago to fight competition from neighboring Luxembourg, where the sales also started on Monday.
“Today, for the sales, we have to make sure that the first week is a success”, explains Jérôme Pinard, for whom the very mild weather should not stop him from buying outerwear because “the promotions are very attractive”.
In the rest of mainland France, the winter sales will start on Wednesday, January 11 and will last four weeks until February 7. In Guadeloupe, the kick-off will take place on January 7 and only on February 4 in Réunion.
