Pensions: Elisabeth Borne assures that the Government “will not go beyond” 43 years of contribution

The Prime Minister also assured that “the discount cancellation age will not change” and that, therefore, it will remain at 67 years.

A few days before the presentation of the pension reform, Elisabeth Borne told Franceinfo on Tuesday morning that the government will not go “beyond the 43 years of contributions” provided for in the Touraine reform.

“I say it clearly: we will not go beyond the 43 years of contribution provided for in the Touraine reform to have a full-rate pension,” said the Prime Minister, adding that “the discount cancellation age will not change: it will remain at 67 “, although the legal age will probably be raised.

Towards an acceleration of the Touraine reform?

Approved in 2014, the Touraine reform provides for a gradual increase, one quarter every three years, of the contribution period to obtain a full pension. With the goal of reaching 172 quarters (43 years) in 2035 for French people born in 1973.

Last October, Emmanuel Macron did not rule out raising the legal age to 64 and not 65, as originally planned. In exchange, the Head of State suggested that he could decide to speed up the Touraine reform in order to reach the 43 years of contributions needed to receive a full pension more quickly.
