This is a colossal figure although it seems ridiculous when taken together for all motorists. Announced at the end of July, the discount on pumps at TotalEnergies service stations could mean a total saving of 447 million euros for the 30 million French households, according to estimates by the economic research firm Astères. That is an average profit of 15 euros per household.
As a reminder, the oil group had indicated that it would make a bonus of 20 cents per liter of fuel in September and October and then 10 cents in the last two months of the year to reduce the impact of the rise in prices at the pump on the wallet of the French. A reduction that is added to the State bonus: 30 cents from September 1.
One in three French service stations belongs to TotalEnergies
To arrive at this figure, the consultancy was based on the representative participation of TotalEnergies in all service stations in France, that is, approximately one third (34%). Astères also assumed that the average consumption would remain stable at the different supply points despite much more attractive prices with the reduction.
A measure that benefits the richest households the most
As indicated above, the estimate of 15 euros is an average and the value of the gain in purchasing power varies around this figure depending on the economic situation of the household and the type of vehicle used. During the year 2022, the economy could reach 18 euros for the richest 40% of the French, while it could fall to just 8 euros for the poorest 10%.
