Since last Thursday, the eyes of the whole world have been on the United Kingdom. Beyond the international attention, the country also attracts foreign visitors whose number could still increase exponentially throughout the week. And for good reason, Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral is scheduled for next Monday and some French people intend to travel to greet the former monarch in person one last time.
An increase from 17 to 20% in reserves on both sides of the Canal
The transport company Flixbus thus reports a 17% increase in reservations to the United Kingdom as of Wednesday for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The increase in travel reservations is also seen within the United Kingdom itself, since departures from the cities of Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham also increased, by 20%, compared to the current week. According to Flixbus, the situation returns to normal the day after the funeral.
A one-way ticket of at least 633 euros by plane the day before
Another indicator traditionally scrutinized to measure the occasional renewed attractiveness of a destination: the price of tickets to get there. In this sense, no means of transport seems to escape a relatively significant increase in its prices to adapt to the increase in demand. If prices remain quite affordable at the beginning of the week, their increase is undeniable as the weekend approaches.
For the bus, they are still around thirty euros in the middle of the week and then go well beyond the 50 euro mark thereafter. In a completely different price range, those of the Eurostar trains start at 241 euros for a one-way ticket the day before the funeral compared to 100 euros less from next Tuesday. Finally, the plane is also concerned about low-cost airlines whose prices are already close to 200 euros, while the one-way ticket with Air France starts at 633 euros for Sunday.
