One in four executives believe their mental health has deteriorated in the last two years

A study by the Association for Executive Employment reveals that the coronavirus pandemic and economic difficulties have damaged the morale of 25% of the executives surveyed. Managers are the profile whose mental well-being has been most affected.

One in four executives (25%) believe that their mental health has deteriorated in the last two years, marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and the difficult economic context with the war in Ukraine and inflation, according to a study published this Monday by APEC.

At the same time, 62% of executives consider that the implementation of teleworking has had a positive impact on their psychological health, indicates the Association for Executive Employment.

Directors particularly affected

At work, more than half of executives report feeling overworked (55%), burned out (54%) or intensely stressed (54%), and 19% of them have already had to take time off or sick leave due to a feeling of exhaustion. Apec points out.

These difficulties are felt more often by managers: 65% feel an insurmountable workload (compared to 47% of non-managers) and 62% feel professional burnout (compared to 48% of non-managers). directors who are not directors).

Finally, the level of stress is perceived as intense by 64% of managers (compared to 48% of non-managers).

A distant relationship between executives and their managers

Although they consider that their managers are attentive to the subject (57%), the executives would first go to their colleagues (60%) to share their psychological difficulties (stress, isolation, depression, exhaustion), Apec points out again.

The survey was conducted online in August 2022 with a representative sample of 1,000 private sector executives in and out of employment, using the quota method.
