Just over four years after the arrest of Carlos Ghosn in Japan, the reorganization of the Alliance between Renault and Nissan is about to materialize and could be revealed at the end of January. Although this episode brought to light the dissensions between the two automakers, the latter have since sought to find an agreement that would allow them to continue their cooperation in this structure born in 1999.

Voting rights for Nissan

The visit of the Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, to France was an opportunity for Emmanuel Macron to confirm the intention of the French State, which owns 15% of Renault, not to oppose the important rebalancing of the cross-shareholdings between the two groups, a important topic in the negotiations of the last years, understands the economic newspaper the echoes.

Renault would reduce its stake in Nissan from 43% to 15%. For its part, the Japanese manufacturer would receive voting rights associated with the 15% stake it already holds in Renault, which has not happened so far.

The crux of patents

Another crucial point in the negotiations: patents, particularly around the Ampère subsidiary, which brings together Renault’s skills in electric cars and software. “The intellectual property lawyers of the two companies have struggled to define a complex legal framework to protect these various patents,” they stress. the echoes. In the end, Nissan would finally get to choose the patents it agrees to share and its stake in Ampère, which Renault would like to see at least 15%, would still be uncertain.

Finally, Nissan would give up participating in the Horse entity, which brings together Renault’s thermal and hybrid activities. The Japanese automaker wouldn’t particularly like to share its “e-power” technology, introduced in its latest Qashqai.
