Olivier Dussopt believes that a fall in pensions is inconceivable

The Minister of Labor reaffirmed the exclusion of this option, a position that contradicts the increase in the CSG decided by Emmanuel Macron during his first term and which had caused a drop in the amount of pensions.

A guest of BFMTV as a result of the press conference dedicated to the presentation of the pension reform, the Minister of Labor was consulted on the alternatives to the change of age that would have made it possible to reduce the deficit of the pension system. He spoke in particular about the option to reduce pensions that had been one of the consequences of the increase in the CSG just five years ago, a measure decided by the current President of the Republic:

An increase in contributions would have increased the cost of labor

Olivier Dussopt also mentioned the possibility of an increase in old-age contributions: “I hear people say that it is only a few euros. It is only a few euros in 2023. In 2023, if we increase the contributions by 60 euros for French, for month, per employee and per year, the deficit can be reduced by 2023 but in 2030 it is 460 euros and it is no longer a few euros per month.

For the Minister of Labor, a lever of this type would seriously damage French competitiveness: “It would increase the cost of labor when we know that the cost of labor in France is one of the highest in Europe and that the successes industries, job creation, investments that we have known for several years that allow us to face the crisis, create jobs – the French economy has created 1.7 million between 2017 and today – are the result of better competitiveness in front of others”.

Finally, inaction is also possible, as the member of the Government reminded us: “There is a third alternative that consists of letting go of the deficit and doing nothing. That is not possible, especially when interest rates rise. works.”
