The mayor of Fos-sur-Mer calls for an “industrial defense council”

The councilor asks in particular for laws that facilitate the installation of industries in France and “respond to the ambition of reindustrialization of our Nation.”

The mayor of Fos-sur-Mer René Raimondi, whose town is located in one of the largest industrial-port areas in France, called for the creation of an “industrial defense council” on the model of the health defense council to reindustrialize the country .

“Covid and Ukraine have had their + whatever the cost + (Editor’s note with the tariff shield) and their health defense council: we need an industrial defense council,” Raimondi argued Friday during the voting ceremony.

The mayor, in particular, calls for laws to facilitate the establishment of industries in France and “respond to the ambition of reindustrialization of our Nation.”

Demonstrator

Fos-sur-Mer, commune of a peu plus de 15,000 inhabitants, opens the partie “industrielle” du Grand Port Maritime de Marseille (GPMM), one of the most important of France: this is the one that is déchargées la majoritye goods.

It is also home to major players in the sector, large emitters of greenhouse gases, such as the metallurgical giant ArcelorMittal, which has installed a factory there, or Esso, a subsidiary of the US group ExxonMobil, which has installed one of the two Fos refineries.

NGOs and residents regularly worry about the impact of these polluting industries on health.

René Raimondi wants to make his city a “demonstrator of what can be done for the industry, for the energy transition” and asks the State for resources for it.

The mayor also presented several projects in Fos-sur-mer that will supposedly work on the energy transition and decarbonization of the industry.

Among them, the establishment by the French H2V of a green hydrogen production plant or that of a “low carbon” steel production plant by the Gravithy consortium of companies, which brings together Engie and Forvia in particular.
