The cabinet wants to stimulate the return to the labor market of the long-term unemployed by allowing the accumulation of a maximum of 65 percent of the unemployment benefit with the salary, Público reports on Wednesday. The measure will be discussed with the social partners on Wednesday.
Salary build-up with part of the subsidy will be done in a regressive manner, starting at 65% and gradually decreasing to 25%, said the same paper citing a Labor Department source. The idea is that between the 13th and 18th month of unemployment, the worker can accrue wages at 65% of the unemployment benefit, while between the 19th and 24th month the percentage drops to 45%. From the 25th month until the end of the unemployment benefit period, the percentage to be accrued with the salary increases to 25%.
