EDF agents proceeded this Wednesday, at the dams, to the first reductions in electricity production in connection with the movement against the pension reform, causing the loss in the network of the equivalent of a nuclear reactor, without causing power outages, AFP learned from concordant sources.
It indicates that “it puts the network in tension but has no impact on the user”, which was confirmed by the manager of the high-voltage lines of RTE. EDF confirmed this drop in production in an informative message on its site: “Ongoing available power loss in the EDF hydraulic park: 1,210 MW. This unavailability is related to the ongoing social movement.”
Various dams involved
French nuclear reactors produce between 900 and 1,450 MW of electricity. The Cheylas (Isère), Pied-de-Borne (Lozère) or Salelles (Ardèche) dams have been particularly affected by these declines in production, according to Fabrice Coudour.
If there is a risk of interruptions, RTE may need to ask operators to stop production outages, as it has been able to do in the past. “We don’t do it there, because we can compensate with our means of production, so there is no impact on the security of electricity supply,” confirms RTE.
