Less than 2% of French service stations were in short supply of petrol or diesel on Thursday morning, a slight improvement compared to the start of the week, as the French were told to avoid refueling as a precaution. On Thursday at 9:30 am, 1.95% of the stations ran out of at least one fuel. Monday, they were 3.75% to be concerned.
Geographically, the difficulties mainly affect the Parisian region, with Hauts-de-Seine being the first affected department (9.64% of affected stations), followed by Seine-Saint-Denis (8.89%). Then come in order Mayenne (8.77%), Val-d’Oise, Nord, Yvelines, Val-de-Marne, Oise, Pas-de-Calais and Aisne (4.35%).
“Some motorway stations could close”
The government, through the voice of Transport Minister Clément Beaune, called on motorists who fear shortages caused by possible stoppages at refineries not to “take precautionary measures.” In this day of mobilization against the government’s pension reform, refineries and oil deposits are called to cease their activities for 24 hours, but without causing shortages at service stations for the moment.
“The stock markets can largely absorb” a first 24-hour strike, but “some highway stations could close,” says Eric Sellini, CGT manager at Totalenergies.
