Carrefour launches its own purchasing center

Objective, to negotiate alone, at a European level, with its large international suppliers.

Three months after the announcement of the end of its purchasing center with System U, which will take effect at the end of September, Carrefour is preparing to launch its own structure. “Envergure” is (almost) dead, it gives way to “Eureca”.

The offices are in Madrid and the teams are ready, they tell us at Carrefour. With the nouvelle centrale d’achat, le distributeur compte négocier dès 2023, seoul avec les géants de l’industrie agroalimentaire comme Procter&Gamble or Nestlé, pour les magasins de la France, la Belgique, l’Espagne, l’Italie, la Roumanie et Poland.

The Eureca teams are in charge of buying and reselling the products at a European level. For suppliers, this makes it possible to have “a single contact, a single contract and simplified administrative procedures for orders and invoices”, the distributor’s management tells us, who for their part hopes to take advantage of this to “better structure their organization at a European level” and promote “clearer and faster decision-making.”

It also intends to “modernize and streamline its supply chain” by relying on data.

Carrefour has chosen to set up its offices in Spain, due to “the solid experience in both food and textiles”, which it claims to have acquired there. Madrid thus becomes the only gateway to Europe for its very large suppliers.

Therefore, Eureca aims to simplify negotiations at European level for its suppliers, but also for the Alexandre Bompard teams. On the French scale, small and medium-sized companies will continue their discussions, directly, with Carrefour France.

On the other hand, to negotiate beyond European borders, we always think it is better to stay united: Carrefour and System U have thus decided to continue joining forces.
