Take the train like the bus. In Corrèze, at three small stations, it will now be necessary to notify the engineer for the train to stop, reports blue france. The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region has been experimenting since the beginning of the year on its TER lines, at the Jassoneix (Meymac), Pérols-sur-Vézère and Montaignac-sur-Doustre stations. More specifically, if a passenger is waiting on the station platform, he will have to signal for the train to stop at the station. And if he is on board the train, he will have to inform the conductor in order to get off.
Avoid the closure of small stations
The objective of these new “stops on demand” is to find a compromise to avoid the definitive closure of these small stations. These stations in rural areas sometimes see only one passenger per day, but are still essential for the inhabitants of the surrounding towns.
“We have people who are still quite old in the city, who do not necessarily have means of transport that allow them to move around,” explains the mayor of Pérols-sur-Vézère to local radio, estimating that this initiative saved the station. in your municipality.
These on-demand stops also allow trains to run faster, by not necessarily stopping at all stations. The experiment will be carried out until the autumn by the Region: if it proves conclusive, it could be extended to other small regional stations.
