Reactor 1 of the Civaux nuclear power plant (Vienne) was reconnected to the electricity grid on Wednesday night, after some 17 months of closure, according to what we learned from EDF.
This reactor had been stopped since August 2021, due to the start of its ten-year inspection and the discovery, a few months later, in October 2021, of a corrosion problem in the reactor’s cooling pipes in the event of a failure. emergency.
Control of all reactors
Following this discovery, similar problems had been detected at other sites, which led EDF to control all its reactors, with the consequence for this winter, a level of nuclear production at its lowest level since the current park exists.
In Civaux, after cutting the pipes and laboratory analysis, some 44 meters of pipe have been replaced in Civaux 1 and 32 meters in the second reactor, Civaux 2.
The two reactors also had to complete their decennial inspections, which is therefore done for the first, and due on February 19 for the second.
