Candy manufacturer Perfetti, with brands such as Chupa Chups, Mentos and Smint, has notified the Competition Authority (AdC) of Mondelez’s purchase of, among others, the chewing gum brands ‘Chiclets’ and ‘Trident’ in Europe, the US. and Canada.
According to the published announcement, the concentration operation by the competition regulator, which assesses the possible effects of the activities on free competition in the national market, is the result of the acquisition by the group Perfetti Van Melle of exclusive control of the chewing gum activities in markets managed by the Mondelez Group in North America and Europe.
With regard to the purchaser, Mondelez Global LLC, the AdC’s announcement highlights that the notified operation in Portugal includes the acquisition by Perfetti of assets corresponding to the brands ‘Trident’, ‘Chiclets’ and ‘Bubbaloo’.
The Perfetti Van Melle group is present worldwide in the production and sale of confectionery products, including a wide range of confectionery, namely lollipops, chewing gum, dragees, but also more traditional sweets. Some of the best-known brands are Chupa Chups, Mentos, and Smint.
