“Lucky Invoice” draw temporarily suspended

The “Fatura da Sorte” draw is temporarily suspended pending compliance with the necessary legal requirements, the tax authorities said on Friday.

“The draw «Fatura da Sorte” is temporarily suspended, pending the necessary fulfillment of the legal requirements related to the respective procedure”refers to a communication published this Friday on the Finance portal.

The last draw of this competition, in which €35,000 in Treasury Certificates is awarded every week to consumers who indicate their VAT number on their invoice, took place on 29 December, the same date as the extraordinary draw.

In information sent to Lusa early this month, the Tax and Customs Administration (AT) said the “Lucky Invoice” has paid out nearly €18.7 million in prizes since its inception, in 2014, until last December.

The “Fatura da Sorte” draw was created in 2014 by the PSD/CDS-PP government of Passos Coelho, to reward “tax citizenship of taxpayers” and fight the parallel economy, the executive announced at the time .

Initially, high-quality cars were raffled and in 2016, the socialist government of António Costa maintained the lottery, but stopped allocating cars and started distributing Poupança Mais treasury certificates.

According to information from the tax authorities following Lusa, 105 cars were drawn in regular draws (Audi A4, approximately 35 thousand euros) and 12 in extraordinary drawings (Audi A6, approximately 50 thousand euros), with a total value of 4,275 million euros.

394 certificates were drawn (353 ordinary drawings worth 35 thousand euros and 42 extraordinary drawings worth 50 thousand euros), totaling 18.695 million euros.

According to information provided to Lusa, the unclaimed prizes were drawn again as second prizes, concurrently with the following extraordinary draws. There are two extraordinary draws and they take place at the end of each semester.

Until December 2022, there were six unclaimed prizes worth a total of 210 thousand euros.

As for the evolution of the number of invoices, this figure has grown over the years.
