The Covid-19 pandemic cost the State €4,134.7 million in 2022 due to an increase in expenditure of €3,676.8 million and a decrease in income of €475.9 million.
“Up to December, the implementation of the measures related to Covid-19, as well as those aimed at restoring normality, led to a decrease in turnover of EUR 475.9 million and an increase in total expenditure of EUR 3,723.8 million”can be read in the summary of the budget implementation that the General Budget Directorate (DGO) released this Friday.
On the revenue side, the DGO points to the estimated impact of the extension of the VAT payment, amounting to 507.5 million euros.
On the expenditure side, it notes support measures for companies and employment (1,321.6 million euros).
Of these, the Ativar program stands out (362.2 million euros), support for the economy (238.6 million euros), other support for companies (278.9 million euros), incentives for standardization (118.5 million euros) and the remuneration of the guaranteed minimum monthly remuneration (90.6 million euros).
Also noteworthy are the expenditures in the Health sector (1,148.9 million euros), namely for the purchase of vaccines, Covid-19 tests and related to human resources.
The report also highlights support for family income (€474.3 million), support for prophylactic isolation (€245.8 million), exceptional support for workers’ income (€78 million) and health insurance premiums (€66 million). .9 million euros).
According to the DGO, effective expenditure of public services excluding expenditure related to measures in the context of the pandemic would have increased by 7.4% and primary expenditure by 8.5% compared to the previous year, compared to the recorded increases of 5.1% and 5.9% respectively.
