Strike on January 31: 20% of flights canceled at Paris-Orly airport

As on January 19, air traffic will be interrupted at Orly airport on Tuesday, the second day of inter-union mobilization.

The General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) asked airlines this Sunday to preemptively cancel one in five flights at the Paris-Orly airport this Tuesday, due to a strike by air traffic controllers in the framework of the second day of mobilization against pension reform.

“The DGAC has requested the airlines to reduce their flight schedule by 20% for Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Paris-Orly airport,” according to a press release.

“Disturbances and delays” expected

Civil Aviation indicates that “several unions have submitted a notice of national inter-professional strike throughout the public service and the private sector for Tuesday, January 31, 2023, in metropolitan France and abroad. This notice was transmitted by several unions that They represent air traffic controllers.

In fact, these preventive cancellations do not prejudge the scope of the interruption of aircraft movements, since the companies themselves could be affected by work stoppages and must communicate their forecasts separately.

Passengers asked to postpone their trip

“In order to limit traffic interruptions, the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) will apply the minimum service provisions in en-route air navigation centers (CRNA) and in the air navigation services of airports where the provisions regulations allow,” the administration said.

“The DGAC invites passengers who can postpone their trip and check with their airline to find out the status of their flight,” their press release specifies.
