Gabriel Attal announces a better-than-expected state deficit in 2022

In an interview in figaro, the Delegate Minister of Public Accounts announces that the State tax collection in 2022 was “7,000 million higher than expected”, particularly thanks to the historic collection of corporate tax. The level of spending is also lower than expected.

The State deficit for the year 2022 will be 151,500 million euros, which represents an “improvement of 19,500 million with respect to the forecasts of the latest amendment to the Finance Law”, announced the Minister Delegate for Audience Accounts Gabriel Attal in le figaro this Tuesday night.

According to Gabriel Attal, the state has notably recorded better tax collection, “7 billion more than expected.” The Corporation Tax (IS) reported 3,000 million better than expected. “The income of the IS reached 62,000 million euros: this is the highest amount in history, while we have the lowest rate in history”, or 25%, further states Gabriel Attal. In addition, personal income tax “exceeds the latest forecasts by 1,600 million, thanks to the wage increases and the jobs created.”

Expenses lower than expected

In addition, the level of spending “is 12,000 million less than what was forecast last November”, particularly because the support mechanisms for households and companies “have not been fully consumed in 2022”, the minister reaffirms . figaro.

However, this should not significantly reduce the public deficit for 2022, the figure for which will not be known until March. It will be “clearly downward compared to 2021”, the year in which it stood at 6.5% of GDP, explained the minister, who maintains the forecast of 5% “without totally ruling out a better landing”. “It is also our forecast for 2023, which is a year of consolidation”, further specifies Gabriel Attal, who specifies that the Government foresees “always a return below 3% in 2027”.
