Mobilization of February 11: massive demonstrations instead of strikes in the middle of the holidays?

If the day of February 7 supported by the inter-union consensus between the different organizations, Saturday February 11 arouses divergences in full school holidays.

Will Saturday, February 11, be a black day in transport for the French? As a result of the second day of mobilization on January 31, the inter-union set the next deadlines for February 7 and 11.

Although Tuesday is unanimously a great day of strikes and demonstrations, it is not the case of Saturday, which falls right in the middle of the holidays in zone A and corresponds to the first weekend of departure of the French from zone B. They are Departures Holidays are likely to be jeopardized by transport strikes?

“Regarding the 11th, we discussed the possibility of not having a call for a strike at the SNCF on that day and of having a simple call for a demonstration,” said the federal secretary of SUD-Rail Erik Meyer on Wednesday.

Laurent Berger tipped the scales

In recent days, a split seemed to be brewing between the railway unions with, on the one hand, the CGT and SUD-Rail who wanted to go on strike on February 7 and 8 and, on the other, the CFDT, which remained on the dates from February 7 and 11. The last speech of the cedista general secretary would have changed the situation.

Reacting to Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne’s interview on France 2 on Thursday night, Laurent Berger estimated that Saturday, February 11, would offer “the possibility of coming to demonstrate, even for workers, workers who don’t necessarily come during the week, even in the family”. , to “show that there is real discontent and real mobilization.”

Therefore, the CFDT-Cheminot should consult its base on Monday to confirm that it does not call a strike for the 11th.

RATP unions continue to seek each other

If the positions seem to be unified on the side of the SNCF, they remain undecided among the organizations of the RATP. The day after the mobilization of January 31, the inter-union of representative organizations of the RATP indicated that it was in line with the strike call initiated the previous day by the eight main French unions for February 7 and 11.

“We call on all company agents to continue and expand the mobilization through strikes and demonstrations on Tuesday the 7th and then on Saturday the 11th of February to say no to this reform,” wrote the CGT, FO, UNSA and the CFE-CGC in a joint press release. release.

However, some trade unionists were already planning less severe riots on Saturday the 11th to allow as many people as possible to demonstrate. A little over a week after this fourth day of mobilization, the RATP union representatives remain vague about the continuation of the strike next Saturday. This is particularly the case of Cémil Kaygiziz, general secretary of the CGT RATP-Bus, who assured that the decision “has not yet been decided” at this stage: “We decided in the inter-union meeting to ensure that the mobilization is increasingly strong. For the On the 11th the objective is that there are as many people as possible, that the entire sector and those who cannot move during the week have a door to do so”.

In energy, organizations remain determined

Interviewed on the microphone of BFMTV, the Minister of Transport Clément Beaune once again called on the unions to take responsibility: “I know that there are still discussions between the unions. The unions must assume their responsibilities so as not to penalize the French who need to find their families in these difficult times.

In the energy sector, the rejection of the pension reform should instead give rise to actions orchestrated by the unions. Next week, between the two national days of February 7 and 11, “perhaps we will be able to witness a radicalization of the movement, which will cause the decision to stop the installations to be made” later, expects Thierry Defresne, secretary of the CGT on TotalEnergies Europe committee.
