“I absolutely do not believe in the speech that people would no longer want to work,” Bruno Le Maire, economy minister, told France Inter on Monday morning.
The minister, questioned by the journalist Léa Salamé about what he thinks of the French who are against the pension reform after the strong words of Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, refused to associate the French with the lazy. To support his statements, he highlighted the “very good economic results” of the country, which registered growth of 2.6% in 2022.
The French, especially the youngest, want to work in a different way, to give meaning to their work, and they are right, added Bruno Le Maire.
“We are judged as lazy”
Alexis Corbière, deputy for La France Insoumise, also addressed the issue this morning on CNews. “When we, the people, want to have better working conditions, rest time, we are judged as lazy,” he said.
“It’s not lazy,” said the deputy. Explain that you can do something else with your time, that it would still be work, without it being “commodified time.” He cites the example of supporting an association or taking care of his grandchildren, for example.
“It is extremely pejorative and it is a form of contempt, social contempt”, judging those who defend the right to retirement as lazy, he said.
