The head of the deputies LR Laurent Wauquiez estimated on Sunday, October 5 that “the conditions (they were not met” to participate in the Sébastien Lecornu government, while the president of the Bruno Retilleau party said he was in favor, the participants told BFMTV to a meeting of parliamentarians on the right.
“I will respect the collective decision, but I consider that the conditions are not met to participate,” said Laurent Wauquiez.
He considered that the letter of commitment sent to the party by Sébastien Lecornu responded to “very few of our applications”, particularly about immigration, security and work, the sources reported.
“Participating is to support. To make a white check again, it would be a mistake, compared to our convictions and what we want for the country,” added the deputy of Haute-Loire, calling his party to “not relive what we knew with François Bayrou.”
Laurent Wauquiez considers that the Republicans made an error in December by joining the centrist government without knowing the road map.
Retailleau supported by Larcher and Bellamy
On the contrary, Bruno Retailleau, outgoing minister of the interior, begged for a participation, for fear that LR will be considered “responsible for chaos,” said these sources declared that the president of the Gérard Larcher Senate and the Eurodiputa François-Xavier Bellamy supported the approach of the Chief of the Republicans.
Bruno Retailleau, who exerted pressure in recent days in Sébastien Lecornu to obtain concessions, estimated that the weight of his party in Parliament was going to “allow him to weigh. This is a guarantee.”
He had punished Thursday during a vision with parliamentarians the lack of commitments of the Prime Minister of Imigration: “There is nothing,” he obviously launched irritated to not see his request to entrust Beauvau “all visa policy”, to review state medical aid (AME) or to restore the offense of the irregular stay.
The right entered the government’s coalition in the summer of 2024, following the appointment of Michel Barnier in Matignon, after the dissolution of the National Assembly.
