Orly airport: 50% of flights canceled after a surprise strike by controllers

The Paris airport said “many delays and cancellations” were expected this Saturday due to a controller strike.

An unexpected move. On this day of demonstrations against the pension reform, the ADP group (Paris Airports) announced in the morning that “many delays and cancellations” were expected at Orly airport. According to our information, 50% of the flights of the day are canceled this Saturday.

This is a surprise stoppage by air traffic controllers who decided to follow the call for mobilization launched by the public services unions as part of a national strike notice presented a few days ago.

No interruptions at other Paris airports

Although various union organizations have called for a day of demonstrations but not a strike this Saturday, this national public service announcement “had not been transmitted by the unions within the DGAC (General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics, Editor’s Note)”, they assure us on the side of the administration responsible for supervising air transport. As a result, “minimum service provisions” could not be “established.”

At this stage, only “some delays have been noted” at Orly, the other airports have not been affected.

During the last day of the mobilization, on February 7, the DGAC had asked the airlines to cancel one in five flights at Orly airport.
