Pension reform: what does the famous article 7 of the bill contain?

Discussions in the Assembly on the bill will resume on Monday and end on Friday. One of the topics is the discussion on article 7, which registers the passing of the age of majority to 64 years.

The race against time for the vote on the pension reform begins this week. In fact, the debates in the National Assembly must end this Friday and many are wondering about the approval of article 7 that is at the heart of the text.

But in fact, what is it? Specifically, this article modifies the social security code and registers the postponement of the legal retirement age.

Thus we can read “the number: “sixty-two” is replaced by the number: “sixty-four””, being 62 years the effective retirement age today, being 64 years the proposal by the government for the reform. The amendment adds that this postponement will be “increasingly, at a rate of three months per generation.”

2 articles out of 20 adopted at the moment

This Monday, only two articles out of 20 were approved by the deputies. Drowned under the 15,800 remaining amendments essentially presented by the Nupes, the question is whether the deputies will have time to debate this article, which, however, crystallizes all the opposition before the text goes to the Senate.

The possibility, due to lack of time, of a lack of debate around this article worries and festers the unions but also the government. “Article 7 must be debated because that is what is being talked about on the street,” underlines Laurent Berger, general secretary of the CFDT.

“We want all the deputies to be able to express themselves in this famous article because, otherwise, the deputies could say ‘As there was no vote, I never voted for the extension of the ‘retirement age’. Each one must assume their responsibilities,” he continued. . The secretary general

The government hopes that the opposition will abandon its amendments to allow debate. “I want us to vote” on article 7 of the pension reform on Monday, says Aurore Bergé, Renaissance leader in the National Assembly.
