It is a symbolic milestone on the eve of the fifth day of interprofessional mobilization against the pension reform. The petition put online by the inter-union to oppose the government’s plan has just exceeded one million signatures. Entitled “Pensions: no to this unfair and brutal reform!”, it was launched more than a month ago during the week of presentation by the government of the pension reform.
The same night as the presentation, Tuesday January 10, the eight trade union organizations met to announce a first day of demonstrations and strikes throughout France for Thursday January 19. The day before this first major mobilization, the inter-union petition had already collected more than half a million signatures.
“The pension system is not in danger”
In its text, the petition again refers to the report of the Pension Guidance Council (COR) according to which “the pension system is not in danger” and does not present “any financial emergency”. “This reform will hit all workers hard, and more particularly those who started working early, the most precarious, whose life expectancy is lower than the rest of the population, and those whose hard work is not recognized,” specify the eight unions.
