Pensions: almost 6 out of 10 French in favor of a “stagnant France” on March 7

BFMTV SURVEY. According to Elabe’s new poll “L’Opinion en direct” for BFMTV that we broadcast this Wednesday afternoon, the French largely approve of the inter-union will to “stop France” on March 7. Beyond this initiative, the opposition to the pension reform is consolidated, the approval of the social movement is confirmed.

The weeks go by like processions and the observation remains, constantly renewed: a great majority of the French opposes the pension reform project carried out by the government. Elabe’s new poll “L’Opinion en direct” for BFMTV, and published this Wednesday afternoon, confirms this, with a new element of support.

According to the pollster, 58% of the French thus support the desire expressed by the inter-union to “stop France” to protest against the maintenance of their plans by the government.

The active, the workers, the young people gathered together for March 7

This 58% is fed mainly by 65% of active workers, a rate that even reaches 72% between workers and employees. The percentage of supporters of a “day dead” is the same between 25 and 34 years. Politically, the union idea is popular among the majority of the electorates, starting with those of Jean-Luc Mélenchon (80%) and Marine Le Pen (74%).

The 41% of the people who oppose this hexagonal break owe a lot to retirees – the latter being 60% for not wanting a blockade on March 7 – and to the supporters of Emmanuel Macron. These are 80% to reject this option.

A still popular mobilization

Despite a minimal change of one point in a week, support also continues for the mobilization, in its various forms, against the pension reform. Thus, 67% of the French approve of the movement. More precisely, 45% of them clearly state that they “support” him and 22% have “sympathy” with him.

If it is not surprising that the majority of workers (72%) and workers and employees (76%) are the most fervent around demonstrations and rallies, we note an unprecedented advance in this sentiment regarding the movement among supporters. by Emmanuel Macron. They are 44% to grant him his satisfied – in the same number now as the detractors of the mobilization within them – an upward trend of seven points in as many days. 60% of retirees also adopt this line.

19% of the French disapprove of the mobilization, on the other hand, while 14% of our compatriots say they are “indifferent”.

Unhappy with the text on the rise again

In this context, the unpopularity of the reform bill itself should not surprise us. 67% of the French reject it, while 32% say they are in favor of the executive’s vision.

The most vehement criticism of the text arises among young people between 18 and 24 years old -with a rate of 77% of opposition to the project, after a jump of 14 points in one week-, and workers (80%, seven points more). 7 out of ten workers, more generally, have the same position, like 53% of retirees.

It must be said that 72% of the French consider the roadmap presented to them “unfair”, 63% – five points more – even condemn its “ineffectiveness”, while 55% even believe that it is not necessary “.

“Neither clear nor transparent”: they reject the government’s discourse

Thus, we note that after a backlash last week, the opposition to the reform is getting stronger and advancing again. This setback can perhaps be explained by one last characteristic highlighted by the pollsters from the Elabe Institute. In fact, this has measured the perception that the French have of the attitude and speeches of the government in recent weeks.

However, the opinion is harsh with the sincerity attributed to the executive. 73% of the French believe that “since the start of the debate on the pension reform, the government has not been clear and transparent about the content of the reform.” The very base of the majority seems to be in the grip of doubt: 46% of Emmanuel Macron’s voters effectively criticize this supposed lack of clarity and transparency of the government.

A controversy has particularly crystallized on this issue in recent days, since the economist Michaël Zemmour demonstrated that it was an error to affirm that no small pension would fall below 1,200 euros per month. On this point, 65% of the French think that the government “deliberately made people believe that all small pensions would be increased to 1,200 euros, so that the reform would be better accepted.”

More than a month after the presentation of the reform project by Elisabeth Borne, her government continues to hit a wall of mistrust.
