The German Mercedes-Benz announced on Friday that it made a profit of 14,809 million euros in 2022, 34% more than the previous year (11,050 million euros), due to the rise in prices and the sale of more expensive vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz also said in a statement that sales improved to 150,017 million euros (+12%) last year and operating profit rose to 20,458 million euros (+28%).
In the first year after the split of the Daimler Truck division, the Mercedes-Benz Group continues its transformation in an environment of geopolitical and macroeconomic difficulties, propelling the brand forward.
“The robust result was driven by better profitability, although the Covid-19 pandemic and the problems in the semiconductor supply chain, as well as the consequences of the war in Ukraine with the invasion of Russia hurt the business,” he stressed. -Benz in the aforementioned note.
Mercedes-Benz group president Ola Kaellenius, quoted in the statement, highlighted “discipline in managing margins and costs” as one of the elements that characterized the business group’s fiscal year.
Kaellenius sees the 2022 financial results as “proof that his strategic direction is the right one to lead in technology”, namely in the electrical sector.
The management and the supervisory board will propose at the next general meeting of shareholders on May 3 this year to pay a dividend of 5.20 euros per share, against five euros in 2021, which corresponds to approximately 5,600 million euros (5,350 million euros in the previous financial year).
In addition, from March 2023 and for a maximum of two years, the Mercedes-Benz Group will buy back its own shares for an amount of 4,000 million euros on the capital market, the statement said.
