The left divided on the strategy to adopt in the National Assembly
After having presented thousands of amendments, the Nupes divided during the debates on the strategy to adopt in relation to the pension reform.
Some, like the green deputies, wanted to withdraw a large part of it so that they could debate article 7, which establishes the postponement of the legal age from 62 to 64 years. The number of amendments withdrawn was ultimately insufficient and the first reading examination ended on Friday without a vote on Article 7.
Emmanuel Macron down in the polls
According to a monthly IFOP survey for the Sunday newspaperEmmanuel Macron’s popularity is waning, including among his first-round voters in the 2022 presidential election.
Only 32% of the French say they are satisfied with their action, compared to 34% the previous month. He also loses 4 points among his voters in the first round (83%).
According to the weekly, this popularity rating is at its lowest level since February 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ciotti dismisses Pradié from his position as number 2 of the Republicans
The crisis had been brewing for several weeks within the party. The leader of the Les Républicains party, Éric Ciotti, announced on Saturday that he would remove his number 2, Aurélien Pradié, openly opposed to part of the pension reform but supported by LR.
“His reiterated positions (no longer) were aligned with the values of coherence, unity and unity that must guide the Republican right,” the head of the LR justified in a press release announcing the dismissal of the executive vice president.
“Convictions, it is defensible,” the Lot deputy responded on Saturday.

The text of the reform between the National Assembly and the Senate
The first reading of the pension reform project ended on Friday in the National Assembly and will resume in the Senate on February 28 in commission and then on March 2 in a public session in the chamber.
Meanwhile, the unions are preparing the great day of social mobilization on Tuesday, March 7.
On Thursday, for the fifth day of mobilization, Laurent Berger and his CGT counterpart, Philippe Martinez, showed their agreement on BFMTV, under the Albi sun. “We show that when the unions are present, when we do our job well (…) the population responds,” said Martínez, to whom the struggle offers a respite, a few weeks before a CGT congress that promises to be stormy.
The CGT claims to have registered 10,200 affiliates in January, the CFDT 10,000 between January 1 and February 3, double the usual number.
