Tax issues new warning about fraudulent email

The IRS warned this Saturday against sending a fraudulent email to some taxpayers about alleged debt settlements, stressing that it should be ignored and deleted.

“The Tax and Customs Administration (AT) is aware that some taxpayers are receiving emails purportedly from the AT with an attachment to supposedly proceed with the regularization of the tax situation,” reads the warning published in the Finance portal.

An example of all the messages with which the taxpayer is “confronted” can be the “sending of the declaration and tax execution procedure for the collection of tax debts” and to which it is recommended to proceed with the tax regularization after a clutch that is provided and which, warns the tax authorities, is fraudulent.

“These messages are fake and should be ignored. Their purpose is to convince the recipient to download software maliciously,” the AT warns, emphasizing that “under no circumstances” should the taxpayer “perform this operation.”

The Tax and Customs Administration advises to read the information sheet Computer Security that is available on the Finance Portal.
