A good year for SNCF: the railway group has obtained more than 2,400 million euros of profits in 2022. A sum that will be reinvested “100%” in “the future of the group”, promised its boss, Jean-Pierre Farandou, referring to the development of the company, the modernization of the French railway network or even the reduction of debt (SNCF’s net debt amounted to 24.4 billion euros in 2022).
“I remind you that 95% of our investments are in France although 40% of our turnover is international,” he stressed.
“Good news for the French”
“It is good news for the French that the SNCF group has good economic results”, added the leader of the SNCF, for whom “today’s investments will allow the reduction of tomorrow’s CO2 emissions”. The public company already invested 10,000 million euros (including a self-financed third) last year, and intends to do the same this year.
Taking advantage of the return of passengers to trains and the development of its logistics activity, the SNCF turned the page in 2022 on the health crisis by registering a net profit of 2,420 million euros. The group is back largely in the green, after losing €3bn in 2020 and narrowly saving the day in 2021 thanks to a sale.
