Chemistry: Germany’s BASF cuts 3,300 jobs worldwide

Affected by the explosion in energy prices, the German chemical giant will also close several production units at its historic site in Ludwigshafen and thus wants to save half a billion euros a year from 2025.

German chemical giant BASF announced on Friday the loss of 3,300 jobs worldwide and the closure of several production units at its historic Ludwigshafen site, after being hit hard by rising energy costs.

The group expects to save 500 million euros per year in non-productive services from 2025 and 200 million more from 2027 at the Ludwigshafen site, it said in a statement.
