During his visit to the Agricultural Show, Emmanuel Macron announced this Saturday the extension, until October, of the aid granted to fishermen to deal with the rise in fuel prices and which expired in mid-May, Secretary of State for the Sea Hervé Berville told the press.
The President of the Republic is committed to “protecting the fishing industry, in the name of French food sovereignty,” the president of the national fisheries committee, Olivier Le Nezet, told AFP at the end of the meeting.
A “fuel aid” of 20 cents per liter
This support takes the form, firstly, of an extension of the “fuel aid” which “stays at 20 cents (taxes not included) per liter of diesel until the end of October” and the establishment of a “contract sector strategy “scheduled in October, he said.
The extension of this aid for fuel is a way of “giving visibility” to the fishing sector, “pending the conclusion of the strategic sectoral contract between all the actors,” said Berville, who accompanied the president.
The cost of this aid for fuel is “about 2.5 million euros per month,” he added, stressing that France is today “the only country that supports its fishing professionals at this level.”
In mid-February, Hervé Berville had announced an extension of this boost, but with decreasing aid, reduced from 20 to 10 cents in mid-May.
This aid had been launched by the previous government of Jean Castex as part of the “resilience plan” aimed at helping companies cope with the economic consequences of the war in Ukraine. While it was originally meant to expire at the end of July, it has therefore already been extended several times.
