A guest of BFMTV this Saturday, the national spokesman for the Confédération paysanne, Nicolas Girod, was skeptical of the statements of Emmanuel Macron, who, on the occasion of the agricultural fair, asked distributors to “make an effort on their margins”.
According to him, the mechanisms to achieve a better distribution of added value among the different actors in these negotiations are not optimal, a few days after the discussions between distributors and suppliers due to the rise in food prices.
The question of remuneration of farmers
Nicolas Girod also underlined the need to take farmers’ remuneration into account in order to maintain food sovereignty in a context of increasing imports in France.
The latter specifies that, in order to guarantee the remuneration of these farmers, “it will no longer be necessary to negotiate below a certain floor”. At the same time, he pointed out the possibility given to distributors of underestimating market indicators (of production costs), which, according to the spokesperson, makes negotiations difficult.
