RTE trial: Philippe Martinez, “shocked”, manifested by the release of former agents

Philippe Martínez says he is “shocked” by the treatment that has been reserved today for the four former RTE agents tried for events dating back to last summer. Before the court in Paris, the CGT leader and activists demand his release and defend the right to strike.

The general secretary of the CGT, Philippe Martínez, demanded on Tuesday “the release” of the four former agents of the manager of the high-voltage lines RTE suspected of interventions in the electrical network and tried by the criminal court of Paris.

“We are waiting for the statement so that the right to strike in this country is preserved, it is a constitutional right and we cannot sanction, let alone judge, the employees, activists, who act in the general interest by exercising a constitutional right that is the right to strike. “, declared before the press the union leader who was summoned for March 7, for the day “France paralyzed”, against the government plan to reform pensions.

Suspected fraudulent interventions

The four men are suspected of fraudulent interventions in the electrical network last summer in the middle of a salary dispute. They were not members of the CGT then and have since been fired.

From 32 to 36 years old, they are being tried before the 13th correctional chamber of the Paris court for “obstructing the operation of an automated system for processing personal data implemented by the State”, “modification” of said system and “fraudulent introduction of data “. , between June 15 and July 22, 2022.

They had been taken into police custody in October at the offices of the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI), causing a stir among CGT and RTE employees.

Specifically, the management, which had filed a complaint against X, accuses them of having caused at a distance and within the framework of the social conflict a “loss of remote control” of the electrical substations of the network.

Right to strike exceeded?

This “symbolic” action, sometimes used during strike movements to lobby, according to RTE, made it impossible for the operator to monitor or control electrical substations by computer, which would nullify the right to strike.

The CGT accuses the group of having “criminalized” this right.

A few hundred protesters gathered with a banner “Stop the repression of those who fight in RTE”, before the demonstration began to disperse during the opening of the trial, scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Judgment must be reserved.
