In a few days, Parisians will discover Picnic. Several times postponed, the arrival of this Dutch home shopping delivery service should take place at the end of March in the capital, according to information from LSA.
Initially planned before the summer of 2022, implementation in Paris was delayed both due to logistical difficulties and the acquisition of electrical capacity from Enedis. Issues that have been resolved in the past few days.
In a few days, Parisians will discover, therefore, this free home shopping delivery service that in a few years has gained more than 1 million customers in Europe and reached 1,000 million euros in turnover compared to the previous year.
Already present in Hauts-de-France since May 2021, Picnic indicates that it has already gained more than 50,000 customers in the metropolitan area of Lille, Lens, Douai, Valenciennes, Armentières and its surroundings for a total of 317,000 orders. With the gradual arrival in Paris, the company intends to multiply its turnover in the country by five.
Launched in the Netherlands in 2015, Picnic is an innovative concept that offers home delivery of purchases without charging the cost. Electric vans deliver the day after order to various customers on the model of the milkman’s rounds of yesteryear.
Despite the delivery offered, Picnic manages to be cheaper in its offer than the competition with an offer that is on average 20% cheaper than all the shopping delivery services on the market according to the A3Distrib barometer.
A commercial aggressiveness that is done to the detriment of the profitability that the company has not achieved more than seven years after its creation. Picnic has raised almost a billion euros, including 600 million in September 2021, notably to finance its establishment in France. Picnic, however, ensures that its model is profitable and that its losses are linked to the significant investments made by the company.
