A frank no. The general secretary of the CFDT Laurent Berger responds this Sunday in “BFM Politique” to those who lend him political ambitions, assuring that he will not join the Government, while the mobilization against the pension reform continues.
“In this country, when you are committed, when you say what you believe with conviction (…), when you are responsible for a trade union organization, (…) you say to yourself ‘it will necessarily be a policy’. As far as I am concerned, I tell you, this will not be like that’, he develops.
The CFDT leader, of which he has been secretary general since 2012, has already announced that he will soon hand over the post in the coming weeks and that he will probably not complete his current term.
“We can transform the world (without doing politics)”
The head of the CFDT, opposed to the reform of the reforms, defends this choice, explaining that he believes that it can be useful to civil society in another way.
“I believe that we can transform the world, society elsewhere than by doing politics. This has been my case for many years as a union member,” he explains.
New demonstrations on Wednesday
Laurent Berger recalled his determination to continue the mobilization against the pension reform, the day after a seventh day of demonstrations in the country.
“The party has not ended,” he assured while a new mobilization is expected for Wednesday, despite the vote on the text in the Senate last Saturday.
The inter-union had sent a letter to Emmanuel Macron on Friday asking him to meet with him to discuss the pension reform project. A letter to which he responded negatively.
