A 70-year-old man died in a helicopter accident this Thursday, October 30, South Yorkshire police reported to several British media, including The Guardian. Three other people were also injured in this incident.
“Despite all efforts of medical staff, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene,” police said. The helicopter took off from Retford Gamston Airport, Nottinghamshire, before crashing just after departure.
“We can confirm that an aircraft based here, operated by a tenant on site, was involved in an incident,” Retford Gamst Airport said.
While the cause of this incident is still unknown, a worker who worked near the accident told the BBC that the helicopter’s engine “made a really worrying noise” as it flew over Doncaster.
a private flight
“The helicopter is believed to be a private flight that took off from Gamston Airport, near Retford, shortly before the crash,” Sky News and the BBC report.
South Yorkshire Police said three other people were injured: the 41-year-old pilot and two other passengers, a 58-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy.
The Air Accident Investigation Office opened an investigation to explain the causes of this accident. “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who tragically died in this incident,” said Inspector Gary Magnay, in charge of this investigation.
“This is devastating news and my thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim of this terrible incident,” responded Doncaster MP Ed Miliband.
People “who have information” or who were “in the area” around the incident are asked to contact local police, said the inspector in charge of this investigation.
