The president of Vinci Autoroutes gives his truth in Le Parisien in the face of criticism that has recently erupted after a rise in tolls last February that reached 4.75%. To this, the highway companies have registered profits for 2021 much higher than those of 2019 and a report from the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) recently unearthed by Le Canard Enchaîné estimates that the concessionaires generate a profitability of around 12%. well above the forecasts made during privatization.
4.26 billion profit in 2022
The Vinci concessions and public works group registered a net profit of 4,260 million last year, 64% more year-on-year. Slightly more than half, 2,200 million, came from its activity on highways.
Asked by Le Parisien about his rate of return, which, according to the Transport Regulatory Authority, should be 7.8%, Pierre Copey replies that this issue of profitability can only really be seen at the end of the concession contracts, in 2036.
Record rise in tolls
Will the increase in tolls last February allow Vinci Autoroutes to make more profit this year? According to its president, this has nothing to do, it was passing inflation to prices.
When asked about future price increases, Pierre Copey makes no fuss: yes, they will continue to increase for years to come.
