A large majority of the population (67%) approves the mobilization against the pension reform, which provides for the postponement of the legal retirement age to 64, according to a new poll by Elabe for BFMTV. Above all, this survey published on Wednesday indicates that 62% of the French want the mobilization to continue if the reform is voted on Thursday in the National Assembly or Elisabeth Borne triggers 49.3.
The population continues to reject the reform
In detail, 77% of the workers and 76% of the employees consider that the mobilization must continue after March 16 if the reform is adopted. Even more surprising, 65% of CSP+s are of the same opinion.
Retirees consider that the mobilization will have to be stopped (45% in favor of continuing the movement, 55% against) and Emmanuel Macron’s voters in the first round of the presidential elections (23% in favor of continuing the movement, 77% against).
Although slightly lower (-2 points) compared to the previous poll by Elabe for BFMTV on March 10, opposition to the pension reform is still the majority in the country (68%).
Strong opposition to 49.3
On the eve of a decisive day in Parliament, 74% of the French believe that the pension reform “will pass” and be applied.
On the other hand, if it should be adopted, the respondents prefer the vote of the senators than that of the representatives. Because 80% of them say they oppose the use of article 49.3 to “approve” the pension reform.
All categories of the population agree on this last point. Including Emmanuel Macron’s voters in the first round of the presidential elections: 56% of them say they oppose the use of 49.3.
And if they could participate in a motion of no confidence after using 49.3, 55% of those surveyed would vote in favor of the motion of no confidence. 23% would vote against and 22% would abstain.
Specifically, 69% of workers would vote in favor of the motion of no confidence. If Emmanuel Macron’s voters in the second round of the presidential election were the only ones to participate in the ballot, the government could fall: 40% are in favor of censorship, 39% against and 21% abstain, according to this survey .
Survey conducted online from March 13 to 14, 2023, with a sample of 1,002 people representative of the residents of mainland France over 18 years of age. The representativeness of the sample was ensured according to the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age and profession of the interviewee, prior stratification by region and agglomeration category.
