“I don’t want to die behind the dumpster”: a dumpster justifies his opposition to the pension reform

A guest on the set of BFMTV, Brahim Sidibé, a garbage collector, recalls that he and his colleagues have a grueling job and is worried about the consequences of postponing the legal retirement age to 64.

For a few days now, the movement against the pension reform has been felt in the streets of several cities in France: garbage collectors are mobilizing in particular against the postponement of the legal retirement age. “The work we do is hard work,” justifies this Wednesday on the set of BFMTV Brahim Sidibé, a scavenger driver

“I am a garbage collector, I have had this job for thirteen years. For eight years I was behind the dump collecting garbage and today [suis sur] heavyweights,” he said.

Garbage collectors can leave at the age of 57 if they are employees of the Paris City Hall. With the reform, the legal age will be delayed to 59 years. But Brahim Sidibé is an employee of the private sector: the current legal age is 62 years. With the reform: 64 years.

Macron is “completely disconnected from reality”

He and his colleagues will “absolutely” continue their move, even if the pension reform is approved by Parliament on Thursday.

During the Covid-19, “Parisians were cloistered at home to protect themselves from the coronavirus, we responded by being present,” he recalls, even saying that at the time he received the congratulations of the mayor of the 15th arrondissement, Philippe Goujon, when the latter was visiting a place of job.

For several days, the councilor has been demanding the “minimum service” and the “requisition” of the garbage collectors on strike. The mayoress of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, refused to organize these searches.

Brahim Sidibé believes that the work that he and his colleagues have done during the health crisis “has been forgotten”. The garbage man believes that Emmanuel Macron “is in his bunker, completely disconnected from reality.”

“These people, I invite them to come practice with me one day. One day, and the next day we’ll see what they’ll say,” she says.
