The parent company of phone operator Mint Mobile, partly owned by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, who regularly promotes it in offbeat commercials, has been acquired by T-Mobile for as much as $1.35 billion.
“I never imagined owning a cell phone company and certainly never imagined selling it to T-Mobile. Life is strange and I am incredibly proud and grateful,” Ryan Reynolds tweeted. .
The actor, known in particular for his role as the crazy superhero Deadpool, had taken a stake in Mint in 2019 that would be equivalent, according to the Bloomberg agency, to around a quarter of the brand.
Consulted by AFP, T-Mobile did not want to give information about the amount held by the artist.

In fact, the American subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom buys the parent company Ka’ena, which includes the brands Mint, known for its $15 a month subscription, Ultra, which offers an international calling service, and the telephone provider Plum Business.
The three brands already operated on T-Mobile’s network, which plans to pay up to $1.35 billion, depending on the achievement of certain targets, 39% in cash and 61% in stock.

Ryan Reynolds will continue to have a “creative role” for the Mint.
He often appeared in carrier advertisements, addressing consumers directly, sometimes without decoration, and occasionally involving his mother or sister-in-law.
The actor also invested in gin brand Aviation in 2018, in which he retained a stake following its sale to British spirits giant Diageo in 2020.
He is also a co-owner of Maximum Effort, which produces films, series and commercials, as well as Wrexham Welsh football club.
