Kakaomundo: eco-responsible chocolate production from the best regions of Gabon

As cocoa consumption in France continues to rise, start-up Kakaomundo designs and markets high-quality chocolates from Gabonese producers committed to respecting people and the environment. All production is now tracked and completely transparent, to guarantee final consumers the ecological responsibility of the products.

The family business project

Kakaomundo is above all the story of Jonathan and Sébastien Ayimambenwe, two brothers from a family of Gabonese farmers who work in the cultivation of cocoa on their own farm.

After completing their studies in France, and thanks to the extensive knowledge acquired over the years with their relatives, the two brothers logically decided to start their own company in the field of cocoa cultivation. “At that time, we wanted to continue developing our knowledge about cocoa and chocolate processing, taking into account the social and environmental problems of this production”explains Jonathan Ayimambenwe.

Incubated by Serre Numérique in Valenciennes, the two founders of the start-up were then able to work on new IT systems to ensure better quality cocoa, as well as traceability and a high level of transparency regarding its mode of production. To launch the project, the company was also able to count on the support of Euralimentaire, in Lille, to develop the part “gastronomy”.

Promote responsible production of Gabonese cocoa

Jonathan and Sébastien Ayimambenwe then chose to export their technology to Gabon, receiving support from CAISTAB in particular: a state organization whose goal is to relaunch and improve the country’s cocoa sector. “Through the CAPREGA (Premium Gabonese Cacaa) program, our desire was, from the beginning, to form a network of Gabonese farmers who had to meet very specific specifications, be it in terms of quality, traceability, but also social and environmental practices”adds Jonathan Ayimambenwe.

Thanks to the QR code added to each product, French consumers can now obtain in a few seconds all the information related to the production mode of the chocolate they are about to eat, while at the same time learning about the different social projects established with their partners in Gabon.

Resolutely in step with the times, the Ayimambenwe brothers now want to make Kakaomundo known to a wide audience throughout France, in order to continue developing their project with new producers in Gabon. In the long term, the objective of Kakaomundo will be to extend its activity to other countries of the world, continuing with the commitment to a system of agriculture ” new generation ” beneficial to all.
