According to an Opinionway survey, 24% of French people would like to start their own business. They calculate that they need an average of 22,480 euros to start their project.

Nearly one in four French people (24%) and more than half (52%) of 18-24 year olds want to start a business, according to a survey published on Wednesday by Opinionway. Women are more numerous (28%) than men (20%) and the proportion of those who plan to be self-employed decreases with age, being limited to 9% for those aged 50 and over, according to this survey. held from February 15 to 21 for the Go Entrepreneurs event (ex-Salon des Entrepreneurs) and the public bank Bpifrance.

Opinionway took a sample of 1,306 people aged 18 or over, representative of the French population in which those aged 18 to 30 were overrepresented “in order to have a base of 404 young people”, according to a press release by Go Entrepreneurs, whose publication The annual show is held on April 5 and 6 in La Défense, near Paris.

The majority (56%) of those who plan to start or take over a business with employees, or go out on their own by becoming self-employed or founding a traditional sole proprietorship, want to do so within two years. , while 42% want to do it at a later date. Among creators or potential buyers, almost two-thirds (63%) have already started preparing their project.

9894 euros of average budget

A major obstacle to getting started is the issue of funding: respondents who say they want to start believe they “ideally” need an average of €22,480 to finance their project in the first year, but only have an average personal budget of €9,894 For this end.

Among the aid needed for the most cited business creation, financial aid ranks first with 55% of the mentions among potential creators, ahead of legal and administrative advice (48%) and financing solutions (46% ), such as fee loans, participatory loans or subsidized loans. The number of companies created in France has almost doubled in ten years, surpassing one million for the first time in 2021 and 2022. But more than 60% are self-entrepreneurs, some of whom have a very low level of activity.
