The feedback from the war in Ukraine puts all countries likely to be involved in a high-intensity conflict on alert. After Europe and, of course, France, it’s America’s turn to put this file on top of the pile.
General Milley warned that a war on the Korean peninsula or between the United States and Russia would lead to “extraordinary” ammunition consumption, and that the country must ensure it is ready.
Produce more 155mm shells
Ukraine and Russia have used huge amounts of artillery munitions since Moscow invaded its neighbor in February 2022, raising concerns about stockpiles held by the United States, which itself has supplied large amounts of munitions in Kiev.
A senior Pentagon official, Gabe Camarillo, had said the day before that the United States was investing to produce more artillery munitions. He said the country was looking to produce more 155mm caliber ammunition, javelin and missile launchers, as well as ammunition for Himars precision rocket launch systems.
This problem is also important in Europe and it is also preparing to produce more to help Ukraine. The European Union is to release 2 billion euros to supply kyiv with one million 155mm shells, fired in particular by the caesar cannons Pzh 2000 French or German, and make joint purchases to replenish their stocks. Of this budget, one billion euros will be used to reimburse member states for ammunition taken from their stocks.
France, for its part, will double the number of 155mm shells delivered to Ukraine, bringing it to 2,000 per month, announced Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of the Armed Forces.
