Laurent Berger is the great winner of the social conflict in public opinion

According to an Odoxa survey, the head of the CFDT is the great winner of the social movement that has been mobilizing on the streets for more than two months and fueling tensions. His attitude pleased most of the French.

Laurent Berger, general secretary of the CFDT and figurehead of the movement against the pension reform, has gained points, many points, with the French, according to an Odoxa poll published earlier in the week. He is even “the big winner in this social conflict of opinion.”

58% favorable opinion about his attitude

“The unions started with a disadvantage at the beginning of the conflict: certainly less unpopular than the executive, but their attitude was condemned by the majority of the French,” according to the political barometer. But more than two months of fighting with the government over a text largely rejected by the population has changed the situation.

The unions and their leaders have thus benefited from a resurgence in popularity, led by Laurent Berger. 58% of the French have a good opinion of their attitude during the conflict, 20 points more than two months before.

The CFDT is known for being a more moderate reformist union than its main counterpart, the CGT, and its leader has called for a “pause” of the reform project and for mediation in recent days amid protests and escalating violence following the use of 49.3 by Elisabeth Borne to pass the text.

He was also omnipresent in the media like his CGT partner, Philippe Martínez, who has just handed over to Sophie Binet.

Philippe Martinez is also gaining popularity, but not as much

Philippe Martínez, former leader of the CGT, has also increased in the esteem of the French with a 43% favorable opinion of his attitude during the conflict. This is 12 points more than two months earlier.

However, it is estimated a little less than the other union flags that received 49% good opinions.

These “esteem points” gained by the unions contrast with the fall in popularity of the government.

Indeed, Emmanuel Macron has lost 10 points in a few weeks and only 23% of the population approves of his attitude in the conflict. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne is at 25%.
