Kinder is testing the sale of chocolate bars in some supermarkets

Kinder chocolate bars are sold in supermarkets in Angers. A commercial test for the Ferrero group.

This may be Kinder’s next big launch: chocolate bars labeled “Kinder Chocotab” have recently appeared on supermarket shelves in Angers. The Ferrero group is testing the marketing of a new range in some stores in Maine-et-Loire, it has learned BFM businessconfirming information from the specialized magazine Linear. However, a nationwide release date is not currently scheduled.

These chocolate bars come in four versions – hazelnut, almond, cocoa and caramel – and consist of a double milky layer covered in milk chocolate. Surveys are currently being conducted with buyers in Angers to determine the commercial potential of this new Kinder range. A sample of Ferrero’s ambitions, France is not the only country affected by this experiment: “Chocotabs” are also being tested in supermarkets in Germany.

Multiplication of new products.

Ferrero, which is already one of the largest sellers in supermarkets, wants to continue growing in the biscuit and chocolate categories by multiplying new products. They have landed one after another in recent years: after Kinder Cards in 2020 or Kinder Duo in 2022, place for Kinder Tronky filled wafers in 2023. The aim is also to expand the customer base by offering more adult products, such as Kinder CereAlé biscuits. of cereals, which navigate with a healthier image.

A winning bet with French consumers, because Kinder is almost automatically installed in the annual top 10 of the best consumer product launches: Kinder Ice Cream (1st place in the ranking established by the panelist NielsenIQ in 2018), Kinder Cards (1st place in 2020), Kinder Happy Hippo (7th place in 2021), Kinder Duo (4th place in 2022), Kinder Bueno Ice Cream (8th place in 2022). However, with the exception of Kinder CereAlé cookies in 2021.

After the salmonella scandal

Ferrero also does not want to let go of the field after the scandal of Kinder products contaminated with salmonella, which rocked the group last year. In the spring of 2022, Ferrero withdrew from the market all its products manufactured at the Arlon (Belgium) plant following the report of dozens of cases of salmonellosis in Europe possibly linked to the consumption of its chocolate products. Sales had fallen 35% in France during the Easter holidays, which are crucial for the group.
