The inter-union union that fights against the pension reform pointed out a “failure” on Wednesday after a meeting of less than an hour in Matignon with Elisabeth Borne, during which the prime minister rejected, according to the unions, the withdrawal of the text.
The leaders of the eight unions who arrived together and on foot in Matignon shortly after 10 am left about an hour later and it was the head of the CFTC, Cyril Chabanier, on behalf of the inter-union, who summarized the content of conversations on the porch.
“We repeat to the Prime Minister that there can be no other democratic result than the withdrawal of the text. The Prime Minister replied that she wanted to keep her text, a serious decision,” Cyril Chabanier declared. “It is necessarily a failure when the Prime Minister does not make any opening in this discussion. So yes, it is necessarily a failure.”
Unionists had warned they would walk out of the meeting if Elisabeth Borne refused to speak about lowering the starting age to 64, crystallizing anger. It is the first time that they have been received in Matignon since the presentation of the reform on January 10, which generated an unprecedented mobilization in the streets.
“Serious democratic crisis”
“We appeal to the good sense of the Constitutional Council, which must listen to the just anger of the workers,” said the union leader, while the Elders will vote on the reform on April 14. He also invited to “join massively” in the eleventh day of mobilization scheduled for this Thursday.
“We will not ignore the fact that millions of employees are mobilizing”, underlined the general secretary of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, at his side, considering that “we are experiencing a serious democratic crisis”. “The President of the Government has sent us an end of inadmissibility and has chosen to send us back to the streets,” launched the new CGT Secretary General Sophie Binet, pointing to a “useless” meeting and ensuring that the inter – union “will be united to the end.”
