Transportation, energy, schools… What to expect from the April 6 strike?

For this eleventh day of mobilization against the pension reform, the interruptions in transport must be limited.

While the meeting on Wednesday between the inter-union and the government was ending, a new day of demonstrations and strikes is scheduled for Thursday. This is the 11th day of the mobilization against the pension reform. The message is the same: “pure and simple withdrawal” of the text, and the unions call for a “strong mobilization”.

What to expect for this day?

• SNCF

SNCF forecasts improved traffic compared to previous mobilization days, including in Île-de-France with:

  • 3 TGV and 4 Ouigo
  • 1 TER of 2 in national average
  • 1 in 4 Intercités by day, but no train will run at night
  • Eurostar and Thalys: almost normal traffic

• Daily transportation

In Paris and Ile-de-France, the RATP provides almost normal traffic on the RER and Metro network “with the exception of a few lines”.

Traffic will be normal on the Bus and Tram networks.

In other large French cities, traffic will also be disrupted at different levels depending on the city. In Lyon, TCL indicates that transport is “very slightly disturbed”. In Marseille, the riots will be “moderate”. In Nice, no tram will work. In Bordeaux, traffic will be “normal platform”.

• Aerial

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) warns that traffic will be interrupted at the departure and arrival from the airports of Marseille-Provence, Toulouse, Nantes and Bordeaux. He asked companies to reduce flights there by 20%.

And this, “from the night of Wednesday April 5 to Friday 7 at 6 in the morning.” “Cancellations and delays are expected,” also indicates the DGAC, which “invites you to postpone” your trip.

• Teaching

There is no unitary call to strike for this April 6, but the FSU-SNUipp, the main union for nursery and primary schools, wants to “keep up the pressure.”

The SUD education union, for its part, calls on the workforce to “harden, expand and renew the strike, and participate in the blockade actions”, and “to converge massively with the other professional sectors to break the Government”.

• Garbage Men

If waste collection resumed last week in the districts administered by the Paris City Council, the CGT FTDNEEA has presented a new renewable strike notice that begins this Thursday.

• Refineries

The strike continues at many refineries and oil depots, but its impact is limited following new government-ordered requisitions, particularly at Gonfreville-L’Orcher.

However, the supply remains difficult at the local level, mainly in Ile-de-France.

According to Ufip figures (as of Tuesday night), 9% of service stations experience at least one fuel shortage compared to 11% on Monday.

In Ile-de-France, 31% of the stations are lead-free compared to 39% the day before.

Production has restarted at the Esso-ExxonMobilde Port-Jérôme-Gravenchon refinery (20% of refining capacity in France). It had been closed on March 25 due to a lack of crude oil to refine. This refinery supplies Normandy and the Paris basin, and should allow the situation to improve significantly in the coming days.

• Energy

The CGT Mines Énergie calls for a renewables strike that will lead once again to production cuts at the plants, but also to “Robin Hood” operations of selective cuts.

This Tuesday in Bordeaux, the CGT claimed a power outage that affected 22,000 customers of the Enedis operator, as well as the station.
