An unexpected reduction. According to the figures of the bill of liquidation of the budget 2022 revealed by the echoes, the state civil service lost 5,844 agents last year. This is the largest drop observed since 2013. And this despite the fact that the executive expected 767 additional positions in 2022.
The economic newspaper affirms that this drop in the number of civil servants is linked to the hiring difficulties of the employer State. In particular in National Education where the workforce fell by 4,424 people last year, when the government had planned 50 contracts.
The phenomen is not new. In February, the Court of Accounts again warned about the shortage of teachers and the need to review training and recruitment methods.
10,000 fewer civil servants in the first five-year period
The Ministry of the Armed Forces, which had 492 recruits, is also struggling to attract candidates. It finally lost 1,018 agents in 2022. A loss of attractiveness that the Government hopes to alleviate by granting more resources for recruitment within the framework of the 2024-2030 military programming law revealed a few days ago.
On the Bercy side, the reduction continued with 1,624 fewer jobs in 2022. On the contrary, the Minister of Justice, which had planned 720 recruitments, saw its workforce increase by 1,334 agents while the Interior recruited some 820 people, as It planned.
This is the fifth time in ten years that the state civil service workforce has declined. Over the entirety of Emmanuel Macron’s first five-year term, around 10,000 jobs were cut according to the echoes. Far from the objective of 50,000 job cuts initially set by the Head of State, before being abandoned.
