Pensions: Sophie Binet believes that the law will “get damaged” from the Constitutional Council

For the general secretary of the CGT, “the Constitutional Council cannot do anything other than censor this law.”

The general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, estimated this Friday that the pension reform law could only be “harmed” by the Constitutional Council, which must ultimately decide on its conformity with the constitution.

“The Constitutional Council cannot do anything other than censure this law, totally or partially,” he declared on the sidelines of a visit to the metropolis of Lille to the striking workers of the northern textile company Vertbaudet, lambasting a law “contaminated by a series of democratic and social failures”.

“What is certain is that the law will come out damaged from the Constitutional Council,” he insisted, calling on President Emmanuel Macron to “learn all the lessons” and withdraw it. He also assured that the union “would not explode” once the decision of the Majors was known, but that the unions would react “together with a unanimous reaction.” “Our state of mind is combativeness and determination,” he said, calling for the mobilization today “at the national level.”

131 actions expected this Friday night

According to a territorial intelligence note consulted by AFP, 131 actions are expected for Friday night in reaction to the Constitutional Council’s decision, in particular “in the form of rallies, parades and blockade actions.”

According to the Ministry of the Interior, 380,000 protesters marched this Thursday in France (1.5 million according to the CGT) for the twelfth day of mobilization against the project, which raises the retirement age from 62 to 64 years. This is the second lowest score since the beginning of the movement after March 11.
